Presidential Race
(01/20/09) On this Inauguration Day, we're hearing from people across the North Country as they make their way to the Capitol Mall in Washington D.C. to see the swearing in of the 44th President. As Barack Obama takes the oath of office, hundreds of millions of people around the world will be glued to radios, TVs and computers to hear his inaugural speech. NPR political editor Ken Rudin talked with Jonathan Brown about what he'll be listening for.
(11/05/08) Martha Foley and Brian Mann analyze yesterday's elections from a state and national perspective.
(11/04/08) It wasn't hard to get comments on the U.S. presidential race from north of the border yesterday. Ottawa correspondent Lucy Martin talked to Canadians and tourists on Parliament Hill.
(11/03/08) In this election year, the youth vote has become a key demographic, targeted by both major party's presidential campaigns. Some political pundits question whether the 18-24 age group will break with the past and vote in large numbers. The Franklin Academy High School in Malone is trying to spark interest in the presidential race by staging a mock debate and presidential election. Jonathan Brown talked with the students playing the candidates.
(10/20/08) Just over two weeks remain until Americans go to the polls to choose a new president. We'll also decide the shape of Congress and vote for state and local offices. The economic turmoil has added urgency to the election - it's also changed the messages of the candidates, and, perhaps, the progress of their campaigns. Brian Mann has been following the election season closely and blogging about politics on our website. He talks with Martha Foley.
(10/20/08) How US politics has interacted with the domestic issues in Iraq and Afghanistan could be a factor in the fateful presidential election of November, 2008. Juan Cole, Professor of History at the University of Michigan, has written extensively about Egypt, Iran, Iraq, and South Asia. He addresses the Contemporary Issues Forum at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.

(10/03/08) Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Democratic vice presidential candidate, and Governor Sarah Palin, Republican vice presidential nominee, debated last night at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Gwen Ifill of PBS was moderator. Audio courtesy of the PBS News Hour.
