(02/21/08) A consultant hired by the Saranac Lake School Board outlined options for possible downsizing of the Saranac Lake School District at a school board meeting last night. Management Advisory Group is recommending the district close Lake Clear Elementary School due to declining enrollment. About 40 Lake Clear parents and other district residents showed up at last night's meeting, most objecting to the closing of their neighborhood school. As Chris Knight reports, school board members appear to be split on the issue.
(01/21/08) Since airline de-regulation in the 1970s, America's small towns have struggled to find companies and passengers willing to use their airports. Here in the North Country, five airports are currently without service following the collapse of Big Sky airlines. Two new carriers have applied to take over those routes. But as Brian Mann reports, the number of airlines willing to serve rural airports is dwindling, despite Federal subsidies that total more than 100 million dollars a year.
